World's longest pedestrian suspension bridge opens in Portugal

The suspension bridge 516 Arouca has opened this Sunday, May 2nd. The opening of the largest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world was attended by the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa.

The infrastructure will start operating tomorrow, May 3rd. The visit to 516 Arouca is always accompanied by an interpreter / guide. Children under 6 years old are not allowed. Visitors aged 6 to 17 years (inclusive) must be accompanied by an adult.

The pedestrian bridge suspended over the Paiva River has a span of about 516 meters and a height of the river of approximately 175 meters, displaying a metallic railing board with a useful width of 1.20 meters, always with a side guard. The bridge connects both banks of the Paiva River in the vicinity of Cascata das Aguieiras and Garganta do Paiva, making possible to appreciate these two points and the entire surrounding landscape from an upper elevation.
